Page 2 Definition

Objectives

The objectives of this section are:
to introduce you to the idea of visualization in data mining
to explain the importance of visualization

Outcomes

By the time you have completed this section you will be able to:
describe what visualization is
list some of the advantages of using visualization

What is Data Exploration?

Data Exploration is a subfield of data mining that focuses on examining data in order to better understand its characteristics before any further analysis is done. This is a vital step because it can help us determine which pre-processing technique should be applied to the data set and also which data mining technique should be used to analyze the data. In some situations it can even answer major questions that would otherwise have required computation to determine.

What is Visualization?

Visualization is the display of information in a graphical and tabular format is known as data visualization. It involves the conversion of data into a visual format so that the characteristics of data and the relationship among data items can be analyzed and reported.  Visualization is important because it allows us to quickly absorb large amount of data and in some situations find patterns in it, it also aids us in our ability to use domain knowledge.
